Post Twitter Feeds Back to Twitter

Comments Comments

One of the more conversational topics on twitter is whether an account should be populated only by feeds. We’re not going to discuss those reasons here, but what we will do is show you one good use of using feeds to create a parent-child account relationship that brings additional content into your master account.
The [...]

Whiteboard Junkie & Figuring Out News

Comments Comments

Perhaps this is more of a “true confession” than a work/news tip, but I’m a whiteboard junkie. I love to use the tool to figure out options for development, a user flow, or how to solve some process issue that can’t be understood until documented (in some way). My old Yahoo! and SportStations [...]

No One Said It Was Easy

Comments Comments

One of the smartest, most strategic guys I met in my time at Yahoo! was a guy named Ian Rogers.
Ian was (is) an unassuming leader, never accepting how what is should remain what’s next.  Yahoo! Music had just bought his company, Mediacode, and I was on the integration/next phase team.  We all were to take [...]

Create a specific email address.
Identify who will provide you with scores (reporters/stringers/a school contact or a combination of all)
Get the email address that each person will use to post scores
Write a script that checks the from: email [...]

Building a Twitter mailbot

Comments Comments

I recently built a very simple Twitter mailbot for use on charlottebserver.com. Check it out: http://twitter.com/obs_election
The requirements were simple: Use a designated email address to send messages directly to a Twitter account.
Why email?

It’s safe to say that everyone in the newsroom knows how to use email
No need to share/learn a username/password for the account
The Twitter [...]

The “10 Reasons” Article

Comments Comments

Having only been part of the newspaper business about a year and a half, I can’t be considered an expert on the industry. When I read the 10 Reasons article being discussed in media circles, however, I did feel the editor/writer — like me — doesn’t have the whole picture. [...]
