Firefox Extension for Triggering ‘Edit-Mode’
After completing yesterday’s post about adding a simple query string after our URLs to trigger an ‘edit-mode’ for our sites, I got to thinking: Why not write a simple Firefox extension to do that instead?
Version 1.0 of that extension has been written and it is very elemental but works great. It places an icon in the statusbar of the browser that when clicked, opens the current page in a new tab and enables ‘edit-mode.’
Through trial-and-error I’ve created a .XPI (zippy) file that when double-clicked will install this extension for you.
Which leads me to… when will the first version of this be available for other sites?
My goal is to package something together by the end of the day on Monday (October 27). It would allow for direct editing of stories, galleries and access to a section’s highlight sets.
Because this site is public and not everyone who visits needs to know this code, you’ll have to contact me directly droberts@observerinteractive.com
